Such an exciting moment!

I have known Renee for many years and I am thrilled to see what is happening with her photography career.

I am ever so thankful to have had her shoot my Plastic Heaven Online Shop and being able to continuously share with her creatively.

Not only can she capture those once in a lifetime moments, she has a gift for photo journalism and was able to join a group called Truth with a Camera on a trip to Guadalajara

How many of you went to camp as a child?

I grew up doing gymnastics so I spent several summers away at gymnastics camp.

What a time-

Remember the feeling when you came back?

Or better yet when you realized you were going to camp?

Well you have the opportunity to help send kids from the DC Area to camp.

Two wonderful friends of mine work with Young Life and for their annual banquet they were looking for items to auction,

without hesitation Plastic Heaven donated goods.

The response was fantastic and as a result we raised approximately $20,000!

Pink Jams! in partnership with the Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce presents headliner Betsey Johnson and 14 of the hottest Washington, DC designers in an one of a kind pink fashion show. Net proceeds benefit Pink Jams!, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and the DC Fashion Foundation.

Plastic Heaven had the opportunity to team up with artist Ben Floeter and Adidas as a preview to Ben's solo show (Art Whino Gallery, National Harbor). Ben's work was inspired by traveling and 70s reggae music from Jamica. There were models representing Plastic Heaven, Adidas and toting Floeter's hand painted vintage luggage all in the spirit of the film Rockers.

SEW N KNOW Fashion Designers (and Me)

The young designers of the Sew N Know Entrepreneurship Programs put on an amazing show.

The energy level was high, the crowd was packed and the level of creativity in these kids is inspiring. This was such an amazing opportunity to be a part of their fashion show and such an honor to have the young designers wear the PH designs.

The Tennis and Learning Center and Mrs. Rankins have created a great opportunity for these kids to develop their creativity and their design skills.

I feel privileged to be a part of it.

CUT COPY AFTER PARTY @ REDEEM

If you missed the Cut Copy show @ the Black Cat last Thursday, hopefully you were able to make it out to the after party. Redeem was the after party spot and dancing was the business of the night. DJ Will Eastman, DJ Cale, and Cut Copy took to the turn tables and the crowd couldn't stop themselves from dancing.

PH is so excited and committed to donating a portion of each item sold to the program. What an amazing opportunity for students to be able to develop their skills and showcase their talents.

DC Yoga Week is April 12-18
It is going to be a great week full of opportunities to try yoga, check out some studios in the area, and even save some cash on the classes you take. For those that don't want to miss the great weather take a class outside during Yoga on the Mall-April 13th between 1pm-4pm.

I found out about this DC Yoga Week from some dedicated yogis
that work for Lululemon. As of now there is a cozy Lululemon showroom located in Georgetown that is bursting with product and friendly staff. The apparel is a great mix of function and fashion. I admire Lululemon, the staff, and founder for representing
something bigger than just "clothes." There is a message in the material, and that is one goal Plastic Heaven hopes to achieve in the apparel industry.
My favorite pieces Velocity Vest, Lulu Gym Bag, and Lulu Shrug.

RECOGNIZE!-The things that inspire

The temporary exhibit, "RECOGNIZE! Hip Hop and Contemporary Portraiture", is up and open for the public. You have from now until October to get down to the National Portrait Gallery and have a look. I visited the exhibition last weekend and I had the opportunity to meet and listen to David Scheinbaum speak on how he became involved in the world of hip hop photography.

You can't miss the large scale, powerful paintings by Kehinde Wiley.
Unfortunatly, no meet and greet or lecture with this artist.

Now what does all this have to do with Plastic Heaven?
I'm in the process of designing for Spring 2009.
The theme for the collection is set, the ideas are brewing, and this exhibition was a refreshing reminder of how much power is in street culture.
I only wish that the RECOGNIZE! exhibit was larger.
I wanted to see more, wouldn't you?
To find out that the National Portrait Gallery is carrying this exhibit had me thrilled, and to see a graffiti installation on the "walls" was a the perfect touch to pull it all together .

PH Fall 2008

Yesterday I returned from my hometown of Virginia Beach where I had a photo shoot for Plastic Heaven and the Fall 2008 merchandise. Some old, some new......still feeling the need to represent the Peace theme. The shoot was loads of fun, we got to play around in the studio and I got to hang out with some of my favorite people from home. My great friends Robert and Sonya aka "the twins" were so gracious to model the PH gear and their sister/my friend Renee' rocked the camera and captured some great shots. There is nothing like hanging out with old friends. I've known this crew since I was about 15 years old. Life long friends.......I'm so excited to share all the goods, but until the Fall season then I'll keep you posted on what is in the works for Plastic Heaven.
